As the sheep fall off the cliff and the wolves enjoy their spoils…

When you don't stop to think, you fall off the cliff...

Seeing this on my friend’s Facebook page made me laugh. And then, it made me stop to think. And then it made me laugh again. See, in this world there are two types of people, though of course there is also always a small percentage that fall into the gray shaded area. The two extremes, however, are the sheep and the wolves.

Definitions:

Sheep: A person who reminds you of a mindless robot, following instructions to a tee, never bending the rules and blaming everything and anything but his/her own self for all his/her problems. This individual cannot produce anything alone, is utterly dependent on the shepherd and is lost without explicit instruction. He/she can be book smart, but utterly lacking in street smarts. This person follows blindly and has more faith in the shepherd than the master deserves. A sheep is adorable, but a useless pawn in the grand scheme of things and will inevitably face his/her own end because of the inability to see beyond the narrow tunnel vision accustomed to.

Wolf: A person who is ruthless, clever, cunning and extremely dangerous. This person knows how to lie and to cheat, but definitely knows how to take hold of an opportunity and gain from it. This one knows what to expect, hides his/her colors and mingles with the sheep, until necessary to stand up and be the shepherd, without the sheep realizing the danger they are placed in. This person may not be particularly book smart, but he/she is a survivor and can con his/her way out of any situation. The wolf may not be as reliable and trustworthy as the sheep, but if you need to get anything done that’s out of the mundane ordinary, always opt for this type of person. This person may be loathed, but none can disagree that he/she will be the victor in the end.

The grey spot: Those who fall into this category are a little bit of both. They have more scruples and morals than a wolf, but are not as blindly trusting as the sheep. These people may not have their noses in their books or know every alley shortcut of the streets, but they are balanced. They may be fooled and may fool others, but they do not have the dangerous edge of the wolf, nor are naive like the sheep. The grey ones won’t fall off the cliff, but they most probably won’t be the politicians ruling the people either. These are the ones you can befriend, the ones who will guide you and support you. However, the grey ones like neither the sheep nor the wolves and keep to themselves. They won’t fall for the same trick twice and are not shy to confront the wolves. They also do not have any particular love for the idiotic display of loyalty by the sheep. The grey ones are the outsiders, they are their own masters and make their own laws. They blend in very well, but at the same time stick out like a sore thumb. These people are opinionated, brave and generally very loyal, but to one another. They fight for people’s right and freedoms, but mostly they are fighting for their own. The sheep won’t notice and the wolves won’t care. It’s the grey ones who will make the difference in the world.

As the sheep fall off the cliff and the wolves enjoy the spoils of their crimes, the grey ones look towards the future with staunch resolution. Which one are you?
